BUFFALO BALLAD
"Let them kill, skin, and sell until the buffalo is exterminated...” - General Philip Sheridan
Thunder rolled over the prairie – and then there was silence. The story of the bison is a parable about globalization and the unfortunate interplay of technological innovation, unbridled capitalism, lack of understanding of ecological correlations, ideologies and politics.
We traveled the heart of the bison country, North- and South-Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. Our photographs are the results of a visual search for the spirit and mysticism of the returning American icon.
For us, the bison is a symbol. There must be places out there where such archaic creatures can live freely. Only a world in which this is possible is for us a world worth living in. That’s what the bison stands for.
