It is all a matter of the point of view
The visual instruments of animals are highlights of evolution. Over the course of millions of years, a large number of optical sensory organs have emerged, always optimally adapted to the needs of living beings: photoreceptor cells, pit eyes, pinhole camera eyes, compound eyes, and the incredible variety of the highly developed lens eyes. The early biologists desperate trying to reconcile what they saw with evolutionary theory. The poor scientists did not yet know that the eye had been invented several times during evolution. The idea was just too good to try it just once.
